With 7,000 employees and 15 distribution centres servicing 3,000 stores, WGSC is responsible for delivering fresh food and groceries to its 30 million customers annually.

Our AP Way, a culture and engagement program, was designed to connect every team member to Australia Post’s transformation strategy and equip leaders to lead it.

Challenge

Against a backdrop of consumer demand for fresh food, huge competition, geographical challenges, heavy unionisation and a lack of shared purpose and values among employees, a string of failed continuous improvement initiatives impacted safety, productivity, employee satisfaction and turnover.

With an ambitious vision to secure their place in the hearts and minds of consumers for another 100 years, Woolworths Group Supply Chain needed to become next-generation and world-class – delivering in full, on time and error-free… consistently, every day.

Solution

The Operational Excellence team had the answer to achieving this. And so, Better Every Day was born — our unique approach to Continuous Improvement at Woolworths!

The idea – start small, with simple tools and behaviours that everyone could use and influence immediately to see a collective improvement in the performance of the entire Supply Chain. The Better Every Day curriculum consists of learning, engagement and communications aimed at developing the confidence, capability and mindset needed to build a culture of Continuous Improvement and encourage the sharing of ‘pockets of brilliance’ around the Employee Network. It also eliminates waste, solves problems and enhances operational excellence for sustained growth.
